A four-percent drop in the number of Israelis filing for unemployment benefits in December compared to October was reported Monday. The total number of unemployment claims dropped to 15,400 in the month of December. According to statistics released by the National Insurance Institute, while there was a drop in the number of claims filed in the second half of 2009, the total number of unemployment benefit claims filed in 2009 jumped by 50% compared to 2008. In December, 86,000 Israelis received unemployment benefit.
