UNIFIL peacekeeper killed in Lebanon work accident

BEIRUT — A spokesman for the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon announced that a peacekeeper has been killed and another injured during "operational activity" in southern Lebanon on Tuesday.
Lt. Col. Naresh Bhatt said that Tuesday's accident occurred in the vicinity of the town of Kfar Chouba where a UNIFIL engineering company was carrying out work.
He said that the injured peacekeeper was evacuated for medical treatment and that the circumstances of the accident are under investigation.
Bhatt did not give the nationality of the two soldiers but Lebanon's state-run National News Agency said the dead was a French peacekeeper.
