United Israel Appeal honors South African philanthropists

United Israel Appeal on Thursday will award steel baron Eric Samson and his wife Sheila with an accolade for their contribution to Jewish communities in Israel, their native South Africa and around the world. United Israel Appeal World Chairman Eliezer Sandberg will give the organization’s Yakir prize to the couple in a ceremony held at the Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem.

“The Samsons have been selected to receive the prize because of their leadership, their deep commitment throughout the years to Keren Hayesod [United Israel Appeal] and the Jewish community of South Africa, and their assured future support,” the press release stated. Samson is the executive director of Macsteel, an international steel trading giant with headquarters in Amsterdam.
