UNRWA spokesman Christopher Gunness denied that a football tournament was named after terrorist Abu Jihad, in a statement quoted by Palestinian Media Watch on Thursday."There was no such tournament," Gunness said in the statement. He added that the allegations, originally published in the Palestinian Authority daily al-Hayat al-Jadidah, were "extremely damaging to a United Nations organization that has a zero tolerance policy towards political or militant activities in its installations and which always takes action, both pro-active and reactive to enforce this policy."The statement also noted that al-Hayat al-Jadidah had "issued a full retraction acknowledging the mistake."
