US jury indicts 18 alleged FARC members

WASHINGTON — A US jury on Tuesday indicted 18 people on terrorism and weapons charges for allegedly engaging in the hostage-taking of three American citizens in Colombia.
The Justice Department said that all 18 who were charged, including a Dutch woman who moved to Colombia, were members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, known as FARC.
The three former hostages were rescued by Colombian military forces in 2008 after more than five years in captivity.
Sixteen of the defendants are being charged for the first time while the other two face new charges.
