US Sen. Reid won't agree to short budget deal-aide

WASHINGTON  - US Senate Majority LeaderHarry Reid is not interested in negotiating a short-termdeficit-reduction and debt limit extension deal and wants along-term package, Reid spokesman Adam Jentleson told Reuters.

"Senator Reid will not agree to a short-term deal and it isour understanding that the White House will not sign it,"Jentleson said.

The Reid aide's remarks came after House of RepresentativesSpeaker John Boehner cut off negotiations with President BarackObama and announced he instead would focus his efforts onreaching a deal with the Senate.
