US-Treasuries bank rule treatment unchanged by S&P

WASHINGTON - The Federal Reserve and otherbank regulators said on Friday Standard & Poor's US debtdowngrade would not affect the treatment of Treasury securitiesfor risk-based capital purposes or under other bank rules.

"For risk-based capital purposes, the risk weights forTreasury securities and other securities issued or guaranteedby the US government, government agencies, andgovernment-sponsored entities will not change," bank regulatorssaid in a statement.

"The treatment of Treasury securities and other securitiesissued or guaranteed by the US government, governmentagencies, and government-sponsored entities under other federalbanking agency regulations ... will also be unaffected," theyadded.

The statement was also issued under the auspices of theFederal Deposit Insurance Corp, the National Credit UnionAdministration and the Office of the Comptroller of theCurrency.
