Homeland Security Minister Matan Vilnai tendered his resignation from the Knesset to Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin on Sunday night.
The Independence faction member's resignation will go into effect in 48 hours.
Shakib Shanan, Independence's choice to replace Vilnai will be sworn in as a new MK on Wednesday.
