VP Shalom: Olmert's return to politics is almost impossible

Vice Premier Silvan Shalom (Likud) said on Thursday he is not afraid of the possible return of former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to political life, and says his return is "almost impossible".

"According to the law today, there is no obstacle stopping people that have been convicted from returning to political life, but the law also has ethical aspects. At the end of the day, if someone is sent away in sin from public life, they will be unable to return."

He added: "I'm not sure that he will return, and I think he understands that an attempt to come back would not only be hard but almost impossible."

"At the end of the day, there will not be a dramatic change and it doesn't matter who will enter the political system. For the past four years, Likud has demonstrated practice and experience, as was shown in the polls released this morning."
