Zoabi: Upper Nazareth mayor wants to expel Arab residents

MK Haneen Zoabi (Balad) slammed Upper Nazareth Mayor Shimon Gipso Sunday for wanting "to cleanse the entire city of Arab residents." Zoabi was referring to a recent statement made by the mayor in an interview with news site El-Arab in which he said that Upper Nazareth would "never become a mixed city," referring to Jewish and Arab residents, the latter of which make up 16 percent of the city.
Zoabi said she was "not surprised by statements," saying that the mayor proves the contradiction between a Jewish state and a democratic one.
The Balad MK said that "80% of Israelis think like [Gipso]," and that his comments are not exceptions to the norm.
