REFORM IN the securities market and banking is the subject of the Prof. Marshall Sarnat memorial conference to be held, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Prof Sarnat, was one of the senior figures in the Hebrew University's Jerusalem School of Business Administration. Many of the lecturers and participants in the conference were among his students and are today leading figures in the world of banking, including the Bank of Israel, academia and insurance companies. TO MARK the 25th anniversary of the outbreak of the first war in Lebanon, originally known as Operation Peace in the Galilee, the BESA Center for Strategic Studies in cooperation with the IDF History Department will hold a conference on The Lebanese Theater dealing with the war itself, the strategic mistakes in the Second Lebanon War and with Israeli involvement in Lebanon in general. A ONE-DAY seminar for physicians focusing on the implications of the "Dying Patient Act" will take place at Mishkenot Sha'ananim Jerusalem under the auspices of Tishkofet, a non-profit organization providing educational and supportive experiences for patients, families and professionals dealing with serious illness and end of life. The seminar is being offered with a special grant from the Jerusalem Foundation and in cooperation with the Center for Aging of Shaare Zedek Medical Center and other local hospitals. Tishkofet is supported by UJA-Federation of New York as part of its spiritual care initiative in Israel. The Dying Patient Act was activated in December 2006, and attempts to regulate treatment of the dying patient. Physicians have been grappling with the dilemmas of the dying patient since the formal practice of medicine began. The new Israeli law places the doctor at the center of the storm. The seminar has been tailored to help physicians process this sensitive issue so that they can be true resources for patients and families during this stressful time.
