Monday, March 24 THE 36th Annual Conference of the Israel Hotel Managers' Association will take place at the Dan Carmel Hotel, Haifa. The conference will be opened by Shaul Zemach, director general of the Ministry of Tourism. Keynote speaker will be Prof. Izzy Borovich, chairman of the El Al Board of Directors who will discuss open skies, a controversial policy which one way or the other can have a significant effect on Israel's incoming tourism statistics. The other major topic to be discussed at the conference will be higher education. Klaas-Wybo van der Hoek, vice president of the Stenden (formerly CHN) University, will speak about their connection to the hotel industry and their novel teaching style, 'Problem-based Learning'. This will be followed by a panel discussion on what can be done to improve the relationship between academia and the hotel industry, so that hotels of any size and grade can utilize this excellent human resource. Haifa Mayor Yona Yahav will be the guest of honor at the conference luncheon. PRIME MINISTER of Sri Lanka. the Hon. Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka will speak on "The Current Political Situation in Sri Lanka and a Vision for the Future" at an evening to be hosted by the Israel Council on Foreign Relations at the Kohinoor Restaurant, Crowne Plaza Hotel, Givat Ram, Jerusalem . Monday, April 8 THE SECOND Haifa Conference on Social Responsibility will take place over a two-day period in the Hecht Auditorium of the University of Haifa.
