The 10,000 apples slated to be shipped to Syria will help ease the fruit surplus within Israel, which was exacerbated by extended closures of the Karni checkpoint with the Gaza Strip.

Druze apple growers on the Golan Heights are expected to begin sending shipments of apples to Syria on Sunday, Fruit Growers Association of Israel Director-General Giora Sela said Wednesday, crediting the development to the success of last year's arrangement and the joint efforts of the Agriculture Ministry, the Produce Council and the Defense Ministry. The 10,000 apples slated to be shipped to Syria over the coming weeks will help ease the fruit surplus within Israel, which was exacerbated by extended closures of the Karni checkpoint with the Gaza Strip, Sela said.
