CanWest loses Jerusalem Post ownership claim

An arbitrator has denied a claim from a major Canadian media company that said it was entitled to acquire a 50 percent interest in The Jerusalem Post. CanWest Global Communications Corp. announced Friday that a New York-based arbitrator had ruled against it in its dispute with Mirkaei Tikshoret Group, an Israel-based media company. The sale of the newspaper had been originally announced in late 2004 by Hollinger International Inc., a Chicago-based company formerly run by the Canadian-born newspaper baron Conrad Black. Geoffrey Elliot, vice president of corporate affairs at CanWest, said the company was reviewing the arbitrator's decision and would consider its legal options.
