Attorney Ziona Koenig-Yair on Monday officially entered office as the commissioner for equal opportunity employment, a newly established office in the Industry, Trade and Labor Ministry. Over the next few months Koenig-Yair will focus on establishing regional branches of her office across the country, working to lower the number of occurrences where businesses discriminate against potential employees based on age, race, sex, nationality or religion. Koenig-Yair earned her law decree from Hebrew University and before coming to Industry, Trade and Labor Ministry served as legal council for the Israel Women's Network. Lazard ups stake in Bank Hapoalim Bloomberg Lazard Asset Management LLC increased its stake in Bank Hapoalim Ltd., Israel's second-largest lender by assets, to more than 5 percent. Lazard, the fund-management unit of the New York-based investment bank led by Bruce Wasserstein, boosted its stake in Hapoalim to 5.045% as of December 24, the Tel Aviv-based bank said in a statement to the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange Monday.
