May car imports rise 56%

Imports of passenger cars in May grew approximately 56% to 24,120 from 15,413 in May 2006, while imports of commercial vehicles fell 10% to 1,361 from 1,512 last year, the Israel Tax Authority reported Monday.

Over the first five months of the year, imports of passenger cars overall rose 16.5% to 49,370 from the same period a year earlier. The Tax Authority also reported a rise in the number of electrical items imported to Israel in May.
