Philippines to ban incandescent bulbs

The move is aimed to use more energy-efficient fluorescent bulbs to help cut greenhouse gas emissions and household costs.

The Philippines will phase out incandescent bulbs by 2010 in favor of more energy-efficient fluorescent globes to help cut greenhouse gas emissions and household costs, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo said Tuesday at the Philippine Energy Summit. Acknowledging similar plans in Canada and Australia, she said the Philippines was the first Asian nation to decide to ban incandescent bulbs.
