Tech Watch: Siemens orders Euro 120m. from Israeli suppliers in '05

While the purchases were in the energy, communications and health sectors, Siemens intends to expand into transportation in the coming year.

Berlin-based electrical engineering and electronics company Siemens AG purchased approximately Euro 120 million worth of raw materials in Israel this year, Bina Bar-On, CEO of the Industrial Corporation Authority said Monday. While the purchases were in the energy, communications and health sectors, Bar-On said Siemens intends to expand into transportation in the coming year. Bar-On signed an agreement last week with Siemens Israel CEO Oren Ahronson, committing the company to expanding its activity in the country. Bar-On said that since its establishment in Israel in 1994, Siemens has bought around Euro 1.4 billion of materials in the country. Children and teen Internet portal Tipo (www.tipo.co.il) has launched its new CamPlay technology, which enables users to play games over the Internet using a camcord (camera attached to the computer) without the use of a keyboard or mouse and without the need to download a third program. All that is required to play the games, according to Tipo, is to be in the focus of the camcord and to wave one's hands in the air to give commands to the game to accumulate points. To date, Tipo has enabled three games with its CamPlay. Internet provider Bezeq International has chosen HP to establish its new storage infrastructure using DRP products for its backup. The new infrastructure will be used in Bezeq International's internal IT environment and its ISP. Electronics company Philips launched a new technology developed at its R&D center in Haifa, which will allow for computerized simulation to be used in X-rays with different energy levels on the CT system. The company said the technology is the first of its kind to hit the market. New York and Tel Aviv-based Walletex will receive an award at the CES Innovations 2006 Design and Engineering Show in the personal electronics category for its Wallet Flash Drive 1.1 product. The CES show will be held in Las Vegas January 5-8, where Walletex will display its credit card sized USB Flash drive. The directors of RH Technologies have authorized a stock buyback of its shares up to a value of NIS 5m. Nazereth Illit-based RH Technologies develops and markets SMT/Surface Mount solutions for the electronics industry. Information solutions provider Ness Technologies Inc. has extended its distribution agreement with SAP AG for the Israeli market until 2010. Ness has partnered with SAP for the last 11 years as the product and professional services arm of SAP in Israel.
