Air strike kills DFLP man in Gaza

Zubeidi wounded in Jenin; Kassam hits Sderot

Security forces killed a Palestinian terrorist in the Gaza Strip and wounded another in the West Bank, in separate incidents over the weekend. Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmad Aboul Gheit condemned the IAF air strike overnight Friday that killed Fuad Abu Marouf who was placing a bomb near the Gaza security fence. Two other Palestinians were wounded in the strike, which came two days after soldiers entered Gaza in pursuit of an Islamic Jihad terror cell, itself the first action of its kind since a cease-fire was declared in November. The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine said the men were "on a holy mission" when they were hit. The army said terrorists have planted more than 40 bombs along the border since a cease-fire supposedly went into effect in Gaza in November. During that period, Gazans have fired around 200 rockets into Israel, the army said, including two on Saturday. One of the rockets fired on Saturday afternoon damaged a warehouse in Sderot's industrial, but caused no injuries. Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas said PA security forces should stop the rocket attacks, which would permit Palestinians to live in "security and dignity." Abbas spoke at a ceremony in Gaza City for new recruits to his Force 17 "Presidential Guard." Earlier, the IDF wounded Aksa Martyrs Brigades commander Zakariya Zubeidi during a clash in Jenin. The IDF said the shooting of Zubeidi in Jenin was not the result of an attempted targeted killing. The army confirmed it fired at a gunman during a fight in Jenin's refugee camp, but said it did not know the identity of the target. Zubeidi has been involved in numerous attacks against Israelis, including deadly roadside shootings. A fluent Hebrew speaker, he is often interviewed by the Israeli media. He is best known for his friendship with Israeli left-wing activist Tali Fahima, who served a two-year prison term for sharing classified information with Zubeidi. Palestinian sources reported that Zubeidi had shot in the shoulder and was in stable condition. Also in Jenin, Palestinians fired at soldiers and detonated a large bomb near an IDF jeep. No one was wounded and no damage was caused.
