Report: 7 killed in an avalanche in Switzerland

An avalanche in central Switzerland has killed seven people, Swiss media reported Thursday- citing emergency services. Andrea Sommer, spokeswoman for cantonal (state) police in Bern, confirmed that several people had been buried by an avalanche on a glacier, but was unable to provide further details. Radio 24 reported the avalanche occurred on the southwest flank of the Jungfrau peak, about 90 kilometers (55 miles) southeast of the capital Bern.
