Please add my name to all the others, great and small, who are offering heartfelt congratulations to the the leaders and people of the unique and amazing State of Israel for the incredible attainment, against all odds, of the 60th Anniversary of the re-birth of their nation. On this highly special and significant occasion, I want to strongly re-affirm the deep and loyal support of conservative Christians for the existence of the world's one and only Jewish state, as well as for their right to possession and sovereignty over the land, which we believe was given to the Jewish people by the God of Israel in a Divine covenant as an "everlasting possession." (Genesis 17:7-8) And this brings up the interesting question concerning the re-birth of the Jewish state of Israel. Who founded the new Jewish nation? Was it the United Nations? Or was it God? Most Israelis and Jewish people worldwide are familiar with the historic vote of the United Nations General Assembly in November 1947, that authorized the partitioning of the land, then called Palestine, into two segments; one for the Jewish people and one for the Arabs. The plan was accepted by the Jewish residents, although reluctantly. But it was rejected by the Arabs. Six months later in May of 1948, the ancient Jewish nation of Israel was re-born, and the modern State of Israel was established. Israel declared its existence as an independent Jewish state. This inflamed the surrounding Arab countries. Everyone remembers that the combined armies of seven neighboring Arab nations immediately attacked Israel intending to destroy to the new state in its infancy. However, through the miraculous Divine intervention of the God of Israel, the tiny new Jewish state was miraculously preserved and delivered from destruction. Everyone should also recall that this new Jewish nation was founded only a few years after Adolph Hitler's attempts to exterminate all Jews in the horrifying Holocaust of World War II. Historians have acknowledged that the modern Jewish state of Israel was built upon the ashes of Auschwitz and other Nazi death camps in Europe. The United Nations only became an existing entity at the end of World War II in 1945. They were only two years old as an authoritative international organization when the vote on partitioning Palestine came up. The re-born nation of Israel was foretold by God's prophets in the Bible centuries before it happened. After generations of disobedience and rebellion against the God of Israel, God allowed the "children of Israel" to be scattered among the nations. He warned them that this would happen and that they would be persecuted and suffer during this dispersion. But God also promised that some day there would be an amazing re-gathering of the Jewish people from among the nations back to their own ancient homeland. God also promised them the restoration of their ancient nation on their own ancient soil, along with His blessing to protect, preserve, and prosper it. (Ezekiel 37:21-22, Amos 9:14-15) So the dispersion, the persecution, the regathering, and formation of the United Nations, the U.N. land partition vote, and the re-birth of the nation were all steps in God's pre-described plan. God simply used the U.N. to help fulfill His plan and purpose. It would be hard for anyone to deny that it was God's Divine intervention that helped the new Jewish nation to survive against incredible odds when the overwhelming Arab military forces tried to destroy it in the War of Independence. In the Six-Day War in 1967 it was again evident to all that God intervened to miraculously defeat the multiple Arab armies, again to Divinely protect and preserve the Jewish nation. Add to all of this God's fulfillment of His other promises - to make the desert blossom as the rose and to cause the nation to prosper - and it is easy to see that Israel and her people are very special to God. Look at Israel's amazing agricultural farms and orchards today and Israel's incredible development in industry, technology, science and medicine. Look also at their mighty military capabilities and their functioning democratic government. Yes, the Jewish peope of Israel deserve a great deal of credit and congratulations for all they have done to make their little nation what it is today. We Christians understand that all of Israel's successes have actually been Divinely managed by the mind, the hand, and the power of the Almighty God of Israel. As we heartily congratulate the nation and people of Israel on this significant 60th Anniversary, we also lift up our hearts in praise and thanks to Almighty God, the God of the Universe, the God of Israel; the very same God that we Christians worship and serve.
