The cabinet on Sunday approved the appointment of Hanan Goder-Goldberger as ambassador to Nepal, two weeks after refusing to rubber stamp a decision by the Foreign Ministry to send him to Katmandu. The decision earlier this month to hold up the appointment of Goder-Goldberger, who is a co-head of the Foreign Ministry’s workers’ committee, was made when it was revealed that he faced disciplinary proceedings for not properly providing the ministry with receipts for gasoline when he was ambassador to Eritrea some six years ago. After reviewing the relevant material, Goder- Goldberger’s appointment was approved on Sunday.Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman also told the cabinet on Sunday that Daniel Taub, recently appointed as Israel’s envoy to London to replace Ron Prosor, is giving up his British citizenship, paving the way for his taking up the post in London.According to Israeli regulations, diplomats can only serve in senior positions in countries where they hold dual citizenship if they give up their citizenship of that country. This is something that Israel’s envoy to the US Michael Oren had to do as well before being appointed as ambassador to Washington.
