Meretz MK Zehava Gal-On will be accompanied by a bodyguard until further notice after she received a threat to her life.The police and the Knesset Guard insisted on protecting Gal-On after learning of the threat, which Channel 2 said came from “right-wingers in settlements.”
Gal-On has been threatened with harm in the past but she said this was the first time she had received a death threat.Gal-On said she did not receive the threat personally but heard about it from the police. She blamed the threat on recent anti-leftist legislation and said it would not stop her from expressing her views.National Union MK Michael Ben-Ari said he did not believe anyone on the Right had threatened Gal- On. He blamed the threat on internal fights in Meretz, where she is running for the party leadership.“This is merely a provocation of the Left,” Ben-Ari said. “Gal-On is such an irrelevant and uninfluential MK that I don’t understand why anyone would want to harm her.”When told of Ben-Ari’s statement, Gal-On said she “doesn’t respond to people who are delusional.” cnxps.cmd.push(function () { cnxps({ playerId: '36af7c51-0caf-4741-9824-2c941fc6c17b' }).render('4c4d856e0e6f4e3d808bbc1715e132f6'); });
