MK Haneen Zoabi (Balad) visited Hebron on Sunday, and was met with cries of “terrorist” from Jewish residents of the area, led by farright activist Itamar Ben- Gvir.
Zoabi was surrounded by her staff and protected by IDF soldiers. She said that she did not coordinate her visit with the IDF, but that they called her office to “establish their presence” and prevent Palestinians from marching with her.
“Why is she hiding behind the same soldiers she attacked while she was on the Mavi Marmara?” Ben-Gvir, who also serves as the spokesman for MK Michael Ben-Ari (National Union), asked.
The Balad MK said she visited Hebron to protest the fact that a street closed after USborn Dr. Baruch Goldstein killed 29 Arabs praying at the Tomb of the Patriarchs, remains closed 14 years later.
“First, 29 Palestinians are killed, and then the entire Palestinian population [of Hebron] is punished,” Zoabi stated.
The government is not only occupying Hebron, but is implementing apartheid, the MK said.
“There is a new Palestinian generation that is determined to begin a nonviolent political struggle,” she added.
“Only in this way can we break the occupation. My campaign is part of this effort.”
