As Hurricane Sandy began to make its way toward America’s East Coast, airlines canceled flights to the region out of Ben-Gurion International Airport on Monday.
El Al cancelled two flights out of Israel to New York City on Monday evening – LY001 to JFK and LY027 to Newark – as well as Tuesday’s LY007 flight to JFK, in anticipation of the storm. The airline likewise cancelled three flights scheduled to depart JFK and Newark for Israel – LY002, LY008 and LY028.
Passengers scheduled for these flights who wish to change their flight dates will be able to do so without a fee, the company said.
Also canceled for Monday evening were US Airways 797 to Philadelphia, United Airlines flight 091 to Newark and Delta flight 269 to JFK in New York.
In addition to the Monday evening cancelations, Tuesday morning’s United Airlines flight 085 to Newark also was cancelled.
El Al and United Airlines also had cancelled their daytime flights for Monday.
United Airlines confirmed that passengers whose flights were cancelled can change their tickets without a penalty – until November 4, after which a fee will be incurred.
