Iran, Yemen on agenda as Gates visits Oman

Oman — Tension with Iran and the terror threat in Yemen will be prime topics as US Defense Secretary Robert Gates meets Sunday with leaders of Oman.

Oman has served as an intermediary in negotiations with Iran, including successful mediation in October that led to the release of an US national held in Tehran for more than a year.

The visit comes against the backdrop of the recent WikiLeaks release of a quarter-million sensitive diplomatic documents, many underscoring the Arab world's anxiety about Tehran and its nuclear ambitions.
