Police deploy thousands of officers ahead of holidays

The Israel Police has implemented a special annual security plan for Memorial and Independence days, and has deployed thousands of officers across the country.

The special preparations began in mid-April during Passover and continued through into last week, with police going on alert for potential revenge attacks on American targets in Israel following last week's raid against al-Qaida chief Osama bin Laden in Pakistan.

The heightened alert and deployment will continue until children return to schools next week. police said.

As part of the preparations, police will increase the number of raids against illegal Palestinians workers in Israel, and will seek out suspected drivers, employers and those who give them room and board, in order to prevent terrorists from sneaking into country via migrant worker routes.
