Embryonic stem cell research binds France, Israel

The French government has approved the establishment of a unique joint research center with the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa that will focus on embryonic stem cells, which could lead to cures of numerous diseases. The signing ceremony was held Monday, with Prof. Christian Brechot, director of INSERM (Institute National de la Sante et de la Recherche Medicale) - France's national institute of health research - representing his country. The new center, which will initially pay for French researchers to spend time in Haifa and for sending an Israeli researcher to France.
