Israeli Designers: New technology could offer cheaper solar power
By JERUSALEM POST STAFF
Cutting edge solar energy technology is being tested in the Negev Desert.
Designers are measuring energy from new solar towers at a solar array that was launched Thursday. They plan to use the new technology for three California plants for the Pacific Gas and Electric Company.
The new technology uses fields of computer-driven mirrors to focus the sun's rays on a water boiler. Water turns to steam, which powers a turbine and produces electricity.
They hope the array will prove to be more efficient and less expensive than previous solar technology.
