Water Authority issues new regulations for watering private lawns

Beginning May 1, the Water Authority has restricted watering private lawns with sprinklers to twice a week between 5 p.m. and 10 a.m. the next day. Those who do not abide by the regulations will have criminal proceedings opened against them. Public gardens will be allocated half as much water as in previous years and moshavim and kibbutzim will also have to abide by restrictions. The Water Authority is also pressing the Knesset to approve a "drought levy" which would drastically increase the price of water for those who use it heavily. If the Knesset does not approve the levy, then watering private lawns will be prohibited altogether, the Authority said.
