A roadside bomb struck a British army patrol Sunday in southern Iraq, killing one soldier and wounding five, a military spokeswoman said.
The attack occurred at about 7:30 a.m. on the northern edge of the city of Basra, Iraq's second-largest, causing the casualties, Capt. Katie Brown said. One of the soldiers was seriously wounded, she said.
The bombing came after a rocket attack Thursday on a British military base in the city wounded six soldiers. A day earlier a roadside bomb wounded one soldier.
