1 NATO soldier killed, 2 wounded in southern Afghanistan

A NATO soldier was killed and two others were wounded during a routine patrol in southern Afghanistan on Thursday, the alliance said in a statement. An Afghan interpreter working with the troops also was killed, the statement said. NATO did not provide the soldier's nationality or the circumstances which lead to the deaths. Violence is soaring in Afghanistan, especially in the country's south and east. This year more than 3,900 people - most of them militants - have died, according to an Associated Press tally of casualty figures provided by Western and Afghan officials.
