29 Afghan migrants killed in road accident in Iran

Iranian state TV said a truck carrying illegal immigrants from Afghanistan has overturned in southern Iran, killing 29 of the migrants. The report says 67 Afghans were injured. The accident took place in the darkness of early morning on Thursday. The wounded were taken to local hospitals in Shiraz, about 900 kilometers south of Tehran. Iran is a major route and destination for human trafficking. The country also has one of the worst road safety records in the world. According to statistics, more than 26,000 people die in road accidents each year due to unsafe vehicles, disregard for traffic rules and inadequate emergency services.
