3rd trial date set in alleged Sears Tower terror plot

A third trial date has been set in Miami in the case of six men accused of plotting to destroy Chicago's Sears Tower and several FBI offices. Two trials in the "Liberty City Seven" case have ended in mistrials. One defendant was acquitted. The third trial is scheduled to begin January 6, 2009. Federal prosecutors have said the violent nature of the threats allegedly made by the ringleader required yet another trial to "safeguard the community." But there is no evidence the men ever acquired any explosives, building blueprints or other items needed to pull off an attack. The men face up to 70 years in prison if convicted of four terrorism-related conspiracy charges.
