Australian police: Al-Qaida supporter called bin Laden 'lovely'

Former Guantanamo terror prisoner David Hicks described Osama bin Laden as "lovely" and trained with al-Qaida a month before the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States, police told a court hearing Thursday on his upcoming release from prison. The Australian Federal Police have applied to a court in Adelaide for an order to restrict the movements of Hicks - a convicted al-Qaida supporter and former inmate at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba - once he is released from an Adelaide prison December 29. Police want a federal magistrate to order Hicks to report to police three times a week and abide by a curfew between midnight and 6 am. If granted, it would be only the second control order granted in Australia.
