Bahrain: US war against Iran won't solve 'problem' between nations

Bahrain will do everything in its power to alleviate tensions between Washington and Teheran, the prime minister of the tiny Gulf state said Monday, stressing that a US war against Iran would not solve the "problem" between the two nations. Bahrain, a pro-Western island nation with Sunni rulers and a Shiite majority, is a close Washington ally and hosts the base of the US Navy's 5th Fleet. Prime Minister Khalifa bin Salman al-Khalifa told The Associated Press that Bahrain "will always work on deflating any thought of confrontation" with the predominantly Shiite Persian state. Iran lies just a few miles from Bahrain shores and Manama believes Teheran has never really given up its territorial claim on the island. However, Khalifa insisted that Iran poses no threat to his Arab nation.
