Blast kills NATO soldier on patrol in southern Afghanistan

NATO says an explosion has killed one of its soldiers on a patrol in southern Afghanistan. An alliance statement said the blast occurred Tuesday in Nahri Sarraj, a district of Helmand province. The Wednesday statement didn't give the soldier's nationality or any other details. Fighting between Taliban-led militants and security forces is surging across the south and east of Afghanistan. Tuesday's death brings the number of foreign soldiers killed in Afghanistan this year to 110, including 35 so far this month.
