Both candidates in Japan leadership race support Afghan mission extension

Both candidates in the race to replace outgoing Prime Minister Shinzo Abe pledged Saturday to push for an extension of Japan's naval mission supporting US-led military operations in Afghanistan.
Japan's navy has been providing fuel for coalition forces in Afghanistan under an anti-terrorism law that has already been extended three times.
But the country's main opposition party is trying to block a further extension, saying coalition military operations there have not been properly approved by the United Nations.
