Bush praises China's response to attack against US tourists

US President George W. Bush has praised China's leadership for its quick response to an attack on two Americans and their Chinese tour guide that left one of the US tourists dead. The president expressed his appreciation to Chinese President Hu Jintao before they sat down Sunday for a meeting. Hu expressed "profound sympathy" to Bush and the family members of the victims. Hu says the Chinese government takes the matter vary seriously and is investigating. The parents of 2004 volleyball Olympian Elisabeth "Wiz" Bachman, who also are in-laws of US men's volleyball coach Hugh McCutcheon, were attacked by a Chinese man Saturday while visiting the 13th-century Drum Tower. Todd Bachman was killed and wife, Barbara, was seriously injured.
