A city council member in Colombia was arrested Saturday, while giving a live radio interview by telephone, for allegedly masterminding a guerrilla attack in February that killed nine of his colleagues.
The suspect, Pedro Gil Trujillo, is a council member in the town of Rivera, 240 kilometers southwest of the capital of Bogota, where the attack occurred.
On Feb. 27, members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, walked into a hotel disguised as police, and opened fire while Trujillo and his fellow council members were attending a lunch meeting.
Nine councilors were killed during the massacre, one of the worst in recent years targeting Colombia's politicians. Trujillo escaped with minor injuries.
Trujillo allegedly alerted the rebels to the meeting beforehand, a spokesman for the attorney general's office said.
