Protesters erected burning barricades with garbage containers and set at least four cars on fire early Saturday as violent street clashes rocked Copenhagen for the second straight night, sparked by the eviction of squatters from a downtown building.
Hundreds of police officers in riot gear used tear gas to disperse the protesters, pushing away demonstrators and onlookers in order to allow firefighters to put out the blazes which sent smoke billowing into the night sky.
One demonstrator was injured in clashes with police in the downtown Noerrebro district, according to the TV2 News channel. The city's ambulance service said one person had been taken to a hospital. No other details were available.
At least 100 people were arrested early Saturday morning, Copenhagen police spokesman Flemming Steen Munch said.
