Explosives found at Port of Los Angeles

A 500-pound (225-kilogram) bomb casing and two old hand grenades were found by workers at the Port of Los Angeles, authorities said. No one was injured. A police bomb squad detonated the two grenades, authorities said. The grenades were found Sunday among a variety of vintage, military-type explosives such as mortar rounds, said port spokeswoman Theresa Adams Lopez. The bomb casing was filled with cement, she said. Workers found them as they searched through scrap metal. Military personnel from Camp Pendleton and other regional locations were inspecting the rest of the explosives.
