Slobodan Milosevic's remains will be flown to the Serbian capital of Belgrade on Wednesday for burial, the family lawyer said Tuesday, hours after the body was handed over to the son of the late Serb president.
The announcement by Zdenko Tomanovic appeared to end a day of confusion over whether Milosevic's funeral would be in Belgrade or in Moscow, where his widow and son live.
An almost simultaneous announcement of an agreement on the funeral arrangements came in Belgrade came from Milorad Vucelic, vice president of the Socialist Party of Serbia, who said that after discussion with Milosevic's wife and son, "the decision has been reached to organize a dignified funeral for our late president" in the Serbian capital.
Milosevic's son Marko, who arrived earlier Tuesday to claim the remains of his father, informed the UN war crimes tribunal of the arrangements, Tomanovic told reporters outside the tribunal builder where his father had been on trial for more than four years.
He said the body would be flown from the Netherlands and arrive in Belgrade at 3:30 pm on Wednesday.
