Former NYC top cop Kerik surrenders; expected to face fraud charges

Former New York City police commissioner Bernard Kerik surrendered Friday to face federal corruption charges.
A law enforcement official, speaking to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the indictment had not been unsealed, confirmed that Kerik had surrendered to await a court appearance later Friday.
Kerik - who held the top police job in New York under then-Mayor Rudy Giuliani - is named in the federal indictment that will be unsealed later Friday, according to a person close to the investigation, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the secrecy of grand jury proceedings.
The US attorney's office said it would hold an 11:30 a.m. EST (1630 GMT) news conference with FBI and Internal Revenue Service officials in White Plains "to announce an indictment of a former public official." The office had no further comment.
