German economy minister makes surprise visit to Iraq

German Economy Minister Michael Glos has arrived in Iraq for a surprise visit.
The Economy Ministry declined to give further details about Glos's visit but German weekly Bild am Sonntag reports that he was to meet with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki Saturday to discuss the nation's oil industry.
The paper says he also plans to meet Iraq's oil and industry ministers. It quoted Glos as saying that no other Middle East country has such large, undeveloped oil reserves.
Germany opposed the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq but has since helped the nation try to rebuild its security forces and develop its economy.
