Reported remarks by Iran's president that Israel should be "wiped off the map" are unacceptable if they were actually made, a German foreign ministry spokesman said Wednesday.
"Should these comments have actually been made, they are completely unacceptable and to be condemned in the sharpest terms," said spokesman Walter Lindner.
State-run media in Iran reported that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called for Israel to be "wiped off the map" and said a new wave of Palestinian attacks would destroy the Jewish state.
Ahmadinejad also denounced attempts to recognize Israel or normalize relations with it.
