Golden official cancels barbecue with Al-Jazeera

Golden's City Manager Mike Bestor decided to rescind an invitation to have Al-Jazeera's English-language news network broadcast the final night of the Democratic National Convention from his backyard during a barbecue. Bestor's decision came after a City Council meeting Thursday night in which residents complained it would be disrespectful to veterans and soldiers, and the city would be linked to the news network. Bestor apologized for any divisiveness he caused in the city of about 18,000, which is 15 miles (24 kilometers) west of Denver. Al-Jazeera is based in Qatar and is funded by the royal family of the Persian Gulf nation. The network says its English service reaches at least 100 million households worldwide. In the US, it can be seen on YouTube.com and a handful of cable systems.
