Hand grenade thrown at Serb house in Kosovo; no injuries

A hand grenade was thrown at the home of a Serb resident in central Kosovo, causing damage, police said Monday. The 27-year-old Serb owner of the apartment escaped unhurt from the blast late Sunday in the ethnically-mixed town of Obilic, a police statement said. The cause of the attack was under investigation. The European Union agreed earlier this month to send an 1,800-strong police and security mission to Kosovo to replace the current UN administrative mission in the province, which has been run by the UN and NATO since 1999. Serbia insists that Kosovo, a province of Serbia whose population of 2 million is 90 percent ethnic Albanian, should remain part of its territory. But ethnic Albanians demand independence.
