Portugal granted an IDF military cargo plane "exceptional" permission to make a refueling stop at a Portuguese airport last week, an official said in published comments Wednesday.
The plane was transporting "non-controversial material" that included "neither weapons nor ammunition," the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Manuel Lobo Antunes told daily Diario de Noticias.
Israeli authorities asked for the aircraft to land in Portugal's mid-Atlantic Azores Islands, Lobo Antunes said.
"We regarded the request as exceptional and informed Israel that we would not grant further requests, for example for controversial cargo," Lobo Antunes was quoted as saying.
He did not provide further details of the plane's cargo, nor did he say where the aircraft was flying from.
