India and the United States reached an agreement Thursday on a landmark nuclear pact, a deal that US President George W. Bush called "historic."
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said the two countries had agreed "on the implementation of our agreement on civil nuclear cooperation."
He was speaking at a joint news conference with US President George W. Bush, who called it "historic," and said: "It's a necessary agreement. It's one that will help both our peoples."
The deal will allow the United States to share nuclear know-how and fuel with India to help power its fast-growing economy, even though India won't sign the international nonproliferation treaty.
